I don't know of any head piece unlocks, but certain costume pieces were exclusive to preorders from certain retailers. Its very easy, there are certain NPCs called tailors (their symbol on the map is a mask) that essentially let you go back and redesign your entire costume if you'd like. The more you change, the more resources it costs.
